The long term thing that is going on is that the earth is cooling,” observes Howard Hayden, emeritus physics prof., U. of Connecticut. “It has been cooling because whats called the Milankovitch Cycle. Theyre getting less and less, by gradual amounts, sunlight above 65 degrees north and you take a look at the glaciers we have, you know that we dont have any glaciers up here in the northern hemisphere that are older than about 8,000 years. All those glaciers are not left over from the past ice age. Theyre new.
