SOCHI, RUSSIA SEES ITS EARLIEST SNOW IN 30 YEARS
Sochi is a Russian city located on the Black Sea. Its mountain resorts were host to the 2014 Winter Olympics and rise some 2050 m (6725 ft) above sea level.
According to local television channel sochi24.tv, heavy settling snow began falling in the region on Saturday morning, Sept 7, and by the evening a substantial layer of powder had accumulated, particularity in the nearby Caucasus Mountains town of Krasnaya Polyana.
Local residents there confirmed the event by sharing photos across social media.
It is reported by news channel Мир 24 (see video below) that such early season snow has not been observed in the Sochi region for at least 30 years:
